What's in your wallet?

Since I am back on the streets in a patrol capacity, I am trying to put together a decent "bailout" bag. I bought one that is identical to the one in the picture and am trying to figure out what to put in it. I currently have the following:

Four 30 round AR mags
Two extra pistol mags
Extra shotgun rounds on a small sling
Several chem lights
Extra flashlight and batteries
Flex-cuffs
Tourniquet and a few field bandages

Can anyone think of something important I am missing?

I used to use that bag, but just switched to an eagle industries active shooter bag - it just holds ammo and is small & light. I attached a molle 6x6 bag for medical gear to it so i have some trauma dressings.

In the bag you just got, i keep extra ar & pistol mags, along with binoculars, 2 water bottles, extra radio battery, 2 clif bars, chemlights, 550 cord, flex cuffs, extra handcuffs, digital camera and drug test kits.

well it looks like you have water - but a few powerbars/protein bars always come in handy and healthy

How about a headlamp? Might not want to wear on if you are a target but it would otherwise be quite useful.

The picture is misleading. The Bail-Out Bag will NOT fit two AR magazines in each front pocket, at least, not if you want to close the flaps. The pockets are just too short.

Also, the bottle on the side is not a full-size Nalgene bottle. If you were planning to take one of those, think again.

Consider adding a multitool, as well as a spare pistol.

If you're likely to ever be in a position where you need to pull a double shift and have no access to food (IE major disaster, civil unrest, etc) you might consider throwing a few Clif bars in there with a bottle of water. Something that won't melt or crush.

You need a multi-tool! Something that can fix most minor things to 'good enough' status for the rest of your shift. That is unless you have a separate tool box your binging.

Hmm...other than that I would say a small pharmacy (Ibuprofen, dayquil, benadryl, etc).

Duct tape or electrical tape, extra pens, CPR pocket mask, knife, extra gloves(latex and patrol) and Advil.

A traffic vest. It sounds funny but it has a good chance of saving your life. Here are my reasons why in this article, Police should add a traffic vest to their go bag.

Money. An experienced traveler once told me she never went out of town (out of the country in her case) without $100 in one dollar bills.

Hat light, multi-tool, gloves. Put an ID tag on the outside with various phone numbers on it. Dog treats.

Spare radio battery (switch ever shift)

I also in addition to Ibuprofen keep a small roll of tums and a thing of imodium ad. My luck th day I have to stand post 200 yards from my car will be Mexican Food day!

I have a multi tool on my belt, if you don't, one needs to be in the bag.

Something else to think about might be a hack saw blade. Make sure you have duct tape, to make a quick handle.

On the same bag you have there I got sick of it not sitting flat. So I took 2 pieces of cardboard and cut them to the size of the main pocket. Makes the bag much more sturdy.

Small cheap am-fm radio earbuds, and spare set of batteries for it. Never know when you might have to monitor local news.

Also do you use a earbud for your patrol radio? If so spare one of them.

Gotta agree with the others on the multitool, spare pens, water, Clif bars (or something similar), and snivel kit for headaches/belly aches/bandaids/etc.

I'm gonna risk it and assume that you'll be carrying any extra pistols and knives on your person. The only suggestion I have is plenty of evidence bags. I can't even begin to relay how many the guys around here go through when arresting someone.

Get a big, fat, brightly colored Sharpie to draw on the walls which way you've gone for the guys coming in behind you.

At VA Tech the doors were chained and locked shut by the suspect. It won't fit in the bag but a good bolt cutter or other quick cutting tool would be handy in the trunk.

Maybe I don't get this cause I'm not a police officer, but what kind of situation is this bag for? Extra AR, shotgun, and pistol rounds? Is this in case of a zombie attack?

I have the exact same bag for my patrol car. While I am late in posting this as many people have given a lot of good ideas which I share, I will throw in what I carry:

multi tool
electrical tape
homemade wooden door wedges.
1 pr clear safety glasses (when making forced entry, breaking car windows, putting down injured wildlife, ect)
several pairs of medical gloves, each pair individually sealed in plastic evidence bags to keep them clean.
Field touniquet
1 package of Quik Clot
2 M-4 magazines
Extra flashlight
extra pair of leather gloves
pair foam ear plugs (dispatching deer)
extra batteries for M-4 Eotech aiming system
Gas mask (we are required to carry ours and mine fits nicely in this bag instead of the large clunky plastic canisters they come with.
Spare map of the city (highly detailed)
small bottle of bug repellant
Powerbar (don't forget to change it out once in awhile - they can get hard and stale)

Some great suggestions above! A few more things to consider adding:

Paracord
Duct tape
A spare knife
Dust masks
A few garbage bags

Seems like you got things covered (no pun intended), but as others said, the specific choice of "bag" might need to be changed up...

But, if you have a free hand, how's about an AT4-SC...just in case you have to really "reach out and touch someone"?
...lol

Stay safe out there.

if you can come by it, an extra battery for your portable

You need at a minimum a C.A.T. tourniquet, kerlix, co-flex, and at the worst Asherman chest seals.

Haha! You can tell it different in the US.
UK "Grab Bag":
Statement forms
Crime Report Forms
Various "Packs" detailing how to record burglaries, robberies etc
Stop Search pads.
Fixed Penalty Notices
Exhibit Labels
Scene Log
Sudden Death Forms
Spare pen.....

Interesting read from a civilian stand point. Good advice too, as far as I can judge.

Question comes to mind...

How would officers react if I had a bag such as that in my vehicle, and it was noticed during a traffic stop?

I do keep emergency gear in the vehicle, but CCW stuff stays on my person where I can control it.
Reading these suggestions, I'll probably change the contents of the ready bag somewhat.

I'm not exactly sure what the intended purpose of your "bailout bag" is (i.e. emergency situations vice the standard "war bag" for extended duty for patrol), but if it is for times when the sh*t has hit the fan, I'd recommend an IV kit (bag + needle) along with the med stuff. As a military/cop/back to military/reserve deputy kind of guy, unless this is for a completely urban environment (i.e. level 1 trauma center <10 minutes away), I'd include something that would help extend the "golden hour" for me or my fellow officers.
